Millions of fluorescent luminaires are phased out – updated AllFive offers highest energy efficiency

As all conventional fluorescent tubes within the EU region are to be replaced with high-quality LEDs, one specific luminaire stands out. With an updated – and future-proof – version of AllFive, Fagerhult is launching a highly energy-efficient IP44 luminaire at just the right time.

Being one of Fagerhult’s best-selling and most appreciated universal luminaires, AllFive has lit up storage rooms, corridors, and garages for decades. With long-term efficiency and quality in absolute focus, we have now put the archetypal luminaire in a new light.

“The launch comes at exactly the right time, as all fluorescent tubes are to be phased out, along with high energy costs. Replacing our previous fluorescent tube version of AllFive with an AllFive LED the energy saving is 53%. By just adding lighting control, you can save 79% energy in corridors and up to 95% in garages,” says Christer Liljegren, Product and Application Manager at Fagerhult.

Easier installation

The luminaire is thoroughly optimized and is now available in three lengths (600, 1200 and 1500 mm). Its new design also makes it exceptionally easy to install; the end-cap opens with a push, the louvre is easy to release, and the luminaire is connected in just a few simple steps. The cable entry is integrated into the molding of the end-cap and the location of the keyholes makes it easy to replace existing fluorescent lamp luminaires with similar c/c dimensions.

“We have done our utmost to make AllFive even easier to handle, from installation through possible renovations to future component replacements. That makes it a good investment both today and, in the future,” says Christer Liljegren.

Good light for everyone, always

AllFive has a carefully worked-out micro-prismatic louvre, providing a pleasant and subdued light. The luminaire is particularly suitable for spaces used less regularly or where daylight will not reach. Regardless of the application there are now even greater possibilities for using lighting controls to save energy.

“With our wireless Plug and Play system Organic Response, AllFive can be effectively controlled via the same lighting control system as any other lighting. You’ll get the right amount of light at the right place when needed.” concludes Christer Liljegren.

Illuminating the Future: Lighting Retrofitting Redefines Efficiency and Compliance

In the quest for energy efficiency and sustainability, LED lighting retrofitting has emerged as a beacon of hope for the future.

However, it is not as simple as just swapping out old fluorescent tubes for modern LEDs; it is about unlocking a world of possibilities that goes beyond what fluorescent lights could ever offer. At The Regen Initiative, we explore the expanding value of LED lighting retrofitting, encompassing regulatory compliance, reliability, and unparalleled efficiency.

Lighting the Way Forward

One of the significant advantages of LED lighting retrofitting is the alignment with stringent energy efficiency regulations. Governments worldwide have recognised the importance of reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and lighting plays a pivotal role in this endeavour.

LED technology is inherently more energy-efficient than fluorescent lighting, meaning it effortlessly meets and exceeds regulatory compliance standards. The Regen Initiative, a leading advocate for sustainable energy practices, applauds LED retrofitting as a crucial step in addressing climate change.

Founding partner Simon Fisher states “LED retrofitting not only aligns with regulatory mandates but also aligns with our mission to transition to a low-carbon future. It’s a practical, energy-efficient solution that can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and facilities. One perfect example of how this can occur is our recent Arup project in Manchester. Their office lighting systems were remanufactured instead of being replaced with new ones, which reduced carbon consumption by 47.5%, energy use by 72% and avoided 85% e-waste disposal via an approved WEEE scheme, an incredible live example of how efficient retrofitting can be.”

The Illuminating Endurance

Fluorescent lights have long been plagued by reliability issues. Frequent flickering, ballast failures, and limited lifespan were common headaches for users. In stark contrast, LED lighting retrofitting offers reliability that is nothing short of remarkable.

If there is one aspect where LED lighting retrofitting truly shines, it’s efficiency. LED technology is known for its remarkable energy efficiency, converting a higher percentage of electricity into visible light. Compared to traditional fluorescent tubes, LEDs consume significantly less power while producing the same or even greater luminosity. This translates into substantial energy savings for both homeowners and businesses.

Energy efficiency should be the core of our vision for a sustainable future. Lighting retrofitting and remanufacturing processes are not just about saving money; it’s about conserving energy resources and contributing to a more sustainable world.

These systems are highly adaptable and controllable and are coming into full force following the commencement of the T5 and T8 fluorescent lamp ban.

Efficiency Beyond Imagination

The value of LED lighting retrofitting extends far beyond the simple act of replacing outdated fluorescent tubes. It encompasses regulatory compliance, reliability, and unmatched energy efficiency that reshapes the way we illuminate our spaces. With energy efficiency regulations becoming more stringent and environmental sustainability a global priority, retrofitting is not just a choice but a necessity for a brighter, greener future.

Through The Regen Initiative, we continue to embrace this technology, not only lowering energy bills and reducing carbon footprints but also basking in the dependable glow of a lighting solution that will endure for years to come. Lighting refurbishment services are more than an upgrade; they are a testament to our commitment to a brighter, more efficient, and sustainable world.

Aurora Lighting Showcases Optimal Showroom Lighting at Charles Hurst Ferrari, Belfast

Ferrari – Charles Hurst Belfast

Located on the outskirts of Belfast’s centre is Charles Hurst Ferrari, the only official Ferrari dealer in Ireland. The modern showroom sells both new and approved pre-owned Ferraris, and the site also houses a service centre.

To keep the space looking fresh and up-to-date, the showroom’s lighting was recently upgraded. The old, inefficient fluorescent lighting needed to be replaced from both an aesthetic and environmental perspective.

To deliver the desired contemporary look, as well as a brighter output, LED strip from LED lighting specialist Aurora Lighting was chosen for the refurbishment. Electrical equipment provider, EDM, supplied a significant amount of Aurora’s LEDline 22W CRI90 flexible strip, in 4000K. This higher colour temperature provided the uplift in brightness that the showroom required.

The specification of a CRI90 solution also allows for the true colours of the cars in the showroom to be fully appreciated by potential customers. This ensures buyers can be confident they know what colour the car will be when in the daylight, which can vary from indoor settings where the CRI of the lighting is lower.

With cut points every 55mm, LEDline offers maximum flexibility. For runs over 5m lengths, the LED strip can be connected in parallel, allowing for longer lines of light if required.

A number of channels and drivers from Aurora Lighting were also supplied by EDM.

To make the switch from the old fluorescent lighting to the LED strip, a set process had to be carried out. The stretched ceilings had to be removed alongside the old fluorescent tubes. The ceiling was then re-skimmed, before installing the runs of the LED strip and the channel to house the lighting.

The upgrade was ahead of its time, given it was completed prior to the removal of fluorescent lamps from sale across the EU. While old lamps can still be used, once they are no longer fit for purpose, this technology will have to be replaced with newer lighting solutions.

The reason for the ban is the growing body of evidence showing the use of mercury, which is used in this type of lighting, is harmful to human health and has a hazardous impact on the environment.

By upgrading from the fluorescent lights to more efficient, cleaner and greener LED lighting, the Ferrari showroom is demonstrating a clear commitment to the environment and compliance with regulations.

Ed Denny, National Sales Manager for Aurora Lighting, said: “As the only official Ferrari showroom in Ireland, Charles Hurst Belfast consistently looks for way to improve the customer experience. Improving the lighting has not only made the showroom more appealing, the upgrade to CRI90 ensures customers can be assured what they see with regard to colour is how the car will look when it is driven outside in the natural light.

“This blend of aesthetics and design, alongside technology features that offer elevated results, is what sets Aurora Lighting apart and makes us the right choice for high-end projects such as this.”

The showroom is also benefiting from greater efficiencies with regard to lighting, lower carbon emissions, and reduced energy costs.
