In 2021, K-LITE proudly contributed to an ambitious urban development project in the Middle East – the New Administrative Capital (NAC) of Egypt, located just east of Cairo. As Egypt strives to alleviate the pressure on the heavily congested city of Cairo, the NAC has been designed as a futuristic, smart city, incorporating state-of-the-art technology, sustainable architecture, and modern urban planning principles.
The Egyptian Government, in line with its vision for a well-planned and visually appealing urban environment, required decorative lighting columns to illuminate the multiple pathways across the NAC. A local trading company, Nile Cruise Co., approached K-LITE to supply a high-quality, aesthetically pleasing lighting solution that met the project’s technical specifications.
K-LITE developed a bespoke sample model – the KL-4665 decorative circular light column – with a 50w light output specifically suited for pathway applications. The sample underwent a detailed prototype testing process to evaluate performance, durability, and design compatibility. Following successful trials, the product was officially approved by the Egyptian government, and 967 light columns were installed throughout the NAC’s network of pedestrian pathways. This lighting solution complements the NAC’s modern design while reflecting the capital’s cultural identity, delivering dependable and energy-efficient illumination.
Despite the global challenges at the time of the project posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, K-LITE demonstrated exceptional resilience and adaptability by ensuring uninterrupted production and delivery of be-spoke light columns, now named ‘Lucy’, for the New Administrative Capital.
As a smart city, the New Administrative Capital (NAC) will feature integrated infrastructure systems that improve energy efficiency and provide an enriched quality of life. Green spaces, renewable energy solutions, and sustainable building practices are at the core of its development.
By contributing to the lighting of Egypt’s new capital, K-LITE continues to play a fundamental role in shaping urban environments that are not only functional but also inspiring.
