Zumtobel’s New IZURA Pendant Wins German Sustainability Award

Zumtobel’s new IZURA pendant luminaire has won the 2025 German Sustainability Award
(DNP) in the Product + Resources category. The jury praised its modular architecture,
resource-efficient construction, and integrated digital product passport, which delivers full
transparency across the product’s lifecycle.

Innovative, Circular Design

IZURA was conceived as a next-generation luminaire built for the circular economy. Its
reflector is moulded from biocomposites, and its housing is constructed from recycled
steel—eliminating plastic wherever possible. Designed under Zumtobel’s Circular Design
Rules (CDR), IZURA follows guidelines from responsible material sourcing to end-of-life
recycling. Low-energy manufacturing processes further reduce its carbon footprint, helping to
meet ambitious climate-protection goals.

Lifecycle Transparency

Each IZURA luminaire has an online digital product passport detailing its production
methods, material composition, and recommended maintenance. The passport guides users
through disassembly and recycling, and Zumtobel’s after-sales services—repairs,
replacement parts, and warranty management—extend the product’s usable life. Soon, the
passport will include an authenticity certificate to guard against counterfeits.

Sustainability Meets Customisation

First unveiled at Light + Building 2024, IZURA combines sustainability with individuality. Its
lean modular design comprises just 40 components—no welding required—so parts can be
replaced rather than discarded. Digital profile printing enables bespoke colour and surface
finishes in any Pantone shade and even allows the integration of patterns, photos, or text in
small production runs.

Equipped with the latest DALI drivers, IZURA offers a wireless app and remote control for
dimming and seamless integration into building-management systems.
“The German Sustainability Award honours products that drive real transformation. With
IZURA, Zumtobel sets the benchmark in circular design and takes a leadership role in our
industry,” says Stefan Schulze-Hausmann, Chairman of the German Sustainability Award
Foundation.

“Applying our Circular Design Rules from day one made IZURA a true tool for the circular
economy,” adds Ines Göbel, Sustainability Manager at Zumtobel. “We’re delighted the award recognises these efforts and inspires us to push further.” For more on the new IZURA
