Industville is shortlisted for an SBID International Design Award 2025

Industville is pleased to be among the inspiring global design talent to have been shortlisted as
a finalist in this year’s SBID International Design Awards for its entry, Dulwich in the Lighting
category.

"Every design we create begins with a simple question: how will it transform the space it's
placed in, and how will it make people feel? The Dulwich was shaped by that vision. With its
clean lines and minimal form, it carries a quiet strength that speaks volumes. It’s designed to
shift the atmosphere, to calm, energise, and inspire through thoughtful simplicity and carefully
chosen materials.

To have this piece recognised is not only an honour, but also a powerful nod to the design
direction we’ve committed to – purposeful, refined, and emotionally resonant design."
Mara Rypacek Miller, Founder

Evaluated by a panel of distinguished, industry-leading experts for functionality, innovation,
creativity and technical execution, an SBID Award is considered one of the most coveted
accolades for design excellence. Success in this GOLD-rated Awards programme
demonstrates the highest level of design skill and professional mastery across the interior
design profession.

About the product:
The Dulwich range is a study in layered design, combining multiple, rippling levels of mocha
glass, an elegant and understated bronze holder, and an ‘orb-like’ alabaster glass globe at its
centre.

The mocha hues of the smoked glass in these pieces create a warmer glow than that of
traditional clear finishes and are a response to a growing desire for warm neutrals that soothe
the senses. This look is carried through in the simple and elegant bronze holder. The use of
multiple layers of the mocha glass in the design creates an elegant diffusion of light that gently
filters through, casting softly across any space rather than in an overly directional manner.
Finally, the alabaster glass globe centre creates an elevated contrast to these foundations, both
balancing and enhancing the visual appeal of the piece. When illuminated, a soft glow diffuses
from the semi-translucent core, highlighting the natural variations in the effect that make each
piece unique.

K-LITE Illuminates Landmark Residential Development at Crown Residences, Chennai

In June 2025, K-LITE completed its lighting contribution to Crown Residences, a residential project by Baashyaam Constructions, located on the bustling Poonamallee High Road in Koyambedu, Chennai.

Designed to redefine modern living in Chennai, the project is comprised of 15 residential towers and a Signature Tower, reaching up to 25 floors and offering a total of 2,078 units. This large-scale development blends architectural finesse with lifestyle-driven design.

K-LITE was appointed to provide landscape and exterior lighting solutions for this development, collaborating closely with the landscape architects and lighting consultants. Together, the teams aimed to enhance the nighttime ambience and safety of the expansive exterior areas, including roads, gardens, and pathways.

A key focus for the lighting was the extensive landscaped zones that weave through the development. To accentuate these green spaces and pathways, K-LITE supplied Brussel lighting poles, selected for their elegant design and durability in outdoor conditions. These fixtures not only offer visual continuity across the site but also ensure that the community spaces remain welcoming after dark.

K-LITE also provided their Conical Arch poles paired with Waco Road Light fixtures – a robust solution that combines architectural styling with high-performance and efficiency. Complementing the overall scheme, bollard lights were deployed for low-level pathway illumination, and Nebula spike lights were used to accent trees and softscape elements.

This project highlights K-LITE’s expertise, lighting solutions and the ability to collaborate to deliver outdoor lighting solutions that elevate large-scale residential environments. With a commitment to quality, longevity, and design integrity, K-LITE continues to shape the nightscape of India’s bold developments.

A Striking Showcase of Bespoke Craftsmanship and Collectible Luxury Design

Gabriel Scott is pleased to introduce a captivating custom iteration of its iconic Briolette Pendant, crafted in luxurious natural onyx stone. Originally developed for a private commission, the Briolette Onyx Pendant exemplifies the studio’s dedication to bespoke craftsmanship, exceptional materials, and collectible, made-to-order design.

While not part of the standard collection, the Briolette Onyx can be commissioned by special request. As a fully customized piece, pricing is available on application, with stone selection, finishes, and scale determined in close collaboration with Gabriel Scott’s in-house design team at the time of order.

A Fusion of Disciplines and Fine Craftsmanship

The Briolette Pendant embodies Gabriel Scott’s multidisciplinary approach – fusing the architectural, the artisanal, and the poetic. Inspired by the elegant Briolette diamond cut, the pendant reinterprets faceted beauty through sculptural form, traditionally using hand-blown glass encased in angular metallic prongs.

In this custom version, glowing onyx stone replaces the glass shade, introducing a refined sense of weight, warmth, and natural texture. The result is a luminous centrepiece that reveals the inherent beauty of natural materials, with a rich glow that enhances the sophistication of any space.

A Showcase of Bespoke Capability

The Briolette Onyx Pendant is a striking illustration of Gabriel Scott’s bespoke expertise – demonstrating how the studio can evolve an existing design into a one-of-a-kind collectible through collaborative customisation. While the finish shown was developed for a past project, the onyx stone and metallic details are fully customisable, with pricing available on application and final finishes determined at the point of order.

“At Gabriel Scott, we take great pride in our ability to adapt and evolve our collections to meet a client’s unique vision. The Briolette Onyx Pendant is a beautiful representation of how our designs can transform through customisation – honouring the original form while introducing new materiality and character. WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN SPECIFYING A FLOODLIGHT

Given their exposure to the elements, floodlights need to be durable, robust and offer longevity. As with all luminaires, not all floodlights are manufactured to the same standards. Nelo Neves, Managing Director of LEDVANCE UK looks at what should be considered when specifying a floodlight.

Floodlights serve a very specific purpose, delivering a broad beam of light that is high-intensity. Ideal for large areas such as stadiums, car parks and logistics centres, floodlights provide a broad and evenly-distributed illumination.

As floodlights are installed outside, exposed to even the most arduous of conditions, they need to be incredibly robust. This ensures they can offer reliable performance, even when situated in demanding environments.

To guarantee this high quality and durability, it is important to look for IP and IK ratings. IP66 and IK08 will ensure protection from water and dust ingress, alongside high resilience against impact. To bolster this further, selecting a floodlight that offers C4 corrosion resistance will deliver even greater protection from the elements. Other specifications to look for that extends service life include a breather membrane with silicone sealing ring, which prevents water buildup and condensation – protecting electrical components for an extended lifetime.

An ability to operate within a wide range of temperatures is also hugely beneficial. For example, the Floodlight Area Gen 2 range from LEDVANCE can function between -30°C to +50°C. This means it will still deliver light even in the most extreme of temperatures.

Comfort for those working or undertaking activities within the lit area is very important. To ensure this, a key consideration is the elimination of glare. Using the Floodlight Area Gen 2 range to illustrate this, its universal asymmetric beam angle (48°×85°) ensures precise, glare-free illumination while limiting light spill.

In addition, the flat tempered glass cover allows safe illumination without light pollution; with a ULOR 0% at 0°.

Notwithstanding the need to remove glare, floodlights still need to be able to direct light where it is actually needed. Look for floodlights that have a flexible bracket with wide rotation, as this will enable easy and accurate installation. To further add to adaptability, modern floodlights offer a multi-lumen function with adjustable brightness levels that can be easily adjusted via a dip switch. This allows on-site changes and simplifies planning.

For those applications where sustainability is a priority, floodlights can play a role in securing this. For example, the Floodlight Area Gen 2 range is manufactured using 100% recycled aluminium for the frame and housing.

Focusing on sustainability is where specifying a high efficiency solution will also reap benefits with regards to energy savings. Opting for a floodlight that delivers up to 150 lm/W will maximise the opportunities for energy savings.

Looking at all of these factors, it’s clear to see there is much more to floodlights than just bright light that operates even in challenging weather conditions. By making a considered choice, projects can also benefit from sustainable solutions that create comfortable environments, and offer on-site adaptability.

Culture Creative and White Light Illuminate the UK’s Most Iconic Trails for 2025

Now in their twentieth year of collaboration, Culture Creative and White Light continue to deliver some of the UK’s most visually captivating outdoor experiences. From the atmospheric chills of Halloween to the festive warmth of Christmas, White Light (WL), a d&b solutions company, is proud to be one of Culture Creative principle suppliers for their seasonal trails across the country.

At the heart of Culture Creative’s trails is a commitment to storytelling through light. Tony Simpson, Head of Lighting at Culture Creative, leads the design and delivery of lighting across all UK sites. With a background in both lighting design and technical management, Tony brings a deep understanding of how light can shape emotion, atmosphere, and audience experience.
“Our trails are about more than just lighting trees,” Tony explains. “They’re about creating moments, whether that’s the quiet magic of a winter woodland or the eerie tension of a haunted graveyard. Every fixture, every angle, every colour choice is deliberate. And WL understands that.”

From the theatricality of Halloween to the festive sparkle of Christmas, each trail is carefully curated to balance creativity, practicality, and environmental sensitivity. “We’re constantly reimagining what’s possible,” says Tony. “And that means working with suppliers who can match our ambition.”

As the scale and complexity of the trails grow, so too do the challenges. From navigating protected wildlife habitats to working within International Dark Sky Reserves, the lighting team must balance creative intent with ecological responsibility.

“The biggest challenge isn’t technical, it’s environmental,” Tony notes. “We work closely with ecologists to ensure our designs are wildlife-friendly. That means using red-spectrum lighting in sensitive areas, reducing light spill, and sometimes redesigning entire sections of a trail to protect local species.”

For the 2024/2025 trail season, WL supported two Halloween trails (Kew and Quarry Bank) and six Christmas trails (Kew, Dunham Massey, Stourhead, Bedgebury, Belton, and Chester), supplying over 5,200 lighting fixtures. These included 334 IP-rated moving lights, 1,875 intelligent LED fixtures, and 2,500 fixed colour LED fixtures, alongside a wide range of generics and specialist units.

Dom Yates, Head of Lighting at WL, comments: “Our relationship with Culture Creative goes back to 2005 when we supplied equipment to their Northumberland Lights events. We are proud to continue supporting them and enabling their creative vision thanks to our broad range of equipment. Over a four-week period, we deliver a significant volume of equipment to multiple sites, and we value the trust they place in us to deliver on time, every time. This year, we’ve seen a further shift towards LED source units, including some of the newest additions to our inventory such as the Ayrton Rivale, Martin MAC Viper XIP, and Chauvet Colorado Q15 Battens.”

With thousands of fixtures moving across multiple sites in a matter of weeks, the logistics are as demanding as the design. But for Tony, the relationship with WL is built on more than just equipment.
“WL makes you feel like you’re their only customer,” he says. “From Dom to the account handlers and prep teams, the level of care and professionalism is exactly what you’d expect from a company of their calibre. They get what we’re trying to do, and they help us do it.”

As Culture Creative continues to push the boundaries of outdoor light art and celebrates 20 years of creating magical experiences, WL remains a trusted partner in delivering experiences that are as technically robust as they are creatively inspiring.

Pharos unveils latest developments at PLASA Show

Pharos Architectural Controls is delighted to be returning to PLASA Show, presenting their latest developments and meeting customers on stand A58.

Held at Olympia, London between 7-9 September, PLASA Show is an exciting exhibition that attracts the best of international entertainment technology.

The Pharos team will be available to meet visitors and introduce a series of key updates to their lighting control product ranges, Pharos Expert and Pharos Designer.

The latest release of Expert now features Groups; a new way to organise fixtures within a space. Expert 2.0 now offers users the ability to control smaller groups within each space with run-time overrides from the Expert Touch mobile app or touchscreen wall stations.

Expert’s programming tools have also been enriched with the ability for users to include static scenes within timeline scenes. In response to customer requests, many dynamic scenes have had their properties extended. For example, a greater variety of speeds and longer loop times providing more subtle playback. Visitors to the Pharos stand will be able to see all of these new features in action with a hands-on demonstration.

The Pharos RIO D4 is now supported in Expert. The team will be demonstrating this DALI four-port device which connects to an Expert system using a single PoE connection. It’s possible to connect up to four RIO D4s to Expert Control, providing up to 16 additional DALI interfaces to a system.

Following the launch of DMX Record at PLASA 2024, recent Designer improvements include DMX Record remapping; an addition which enables recorded universes to be routed to an alternative universe output, including local DMX ports on the controller.

Another significant enhancement has been made to eDMX pass-through. Users can now take eDMX (Art-Net or sACN) from any console and passively route it through the Pharos Designer LPC to another eDMX universe, the controller’s local ports or ports on Pharos DMX gateways (EDN and RIO G4). This is an ideal solution for venues where a permanent installation controlled by a Designer LPC needs to be temporarily controlled by a hired-in console – perhaps from a touring production – before control is handed back to the Pharos system when the event is over.

Ryan Sainsbury, Regional Sales Manager for UK and Northern Europe at Pharos Architectural Controls said: “PLASA Show is an important exhibition in the Pharos events calendar. Our Expert and Designer ranges offer huge advantages to the entertainment technology sector, and the show is the ideal way for us to communicate with our existing and future clients. We are continually developing the Pharos Expert and Designer ranges, and we’re looking forward to profiling these at PLASA Show and demonstrating the benefits they offer to a wide variety of lighting projects.”

LITE Marks Milestone with 350 Years of Combined Experience

Leading LED lighting solutions provider LITE is celebrating a major milestone: its team has now amassed over 350 years of combined experience in the industry.

This exceptional depth of expertise is central to LITE’s continued success. It enables the company to deliver bold, imaginative, and technically complex lighting projects across the globe – from festive city centre transformations to intricate architectural illuminations. Whether collaborating with lighting designers, local authorities, specifiers, or contractors, LITE consistently draws upon its unrivalled know-how to deliver solutions that exceed expectations.

At the heart of LITE’s approach is a fully integrated, turn-key service model – managing every aspect of a project from initial concept and design, through to installation, commissioning, and aftercare. This seamless process, refined through decades of hands-on industry experience, ensures that each project is executed with precision and care.

LITE’s name itself encapsulates the company’s core values:

Lighting – Providing innovative, sustainable solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, and energy efficiency.
Innovation – Pushing boundaries through creativity, collaboration, and forward-thinking partnerships.
Technology – Embracing the latest advancements to enhance performance, reliability, and impact.
Experience – A powerhouse team of industry veterans, offering expert guidance and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Among LITE’s vast portfolio of successful projects, a few stand out as truly defining moments. For David Robertson, Architectural Lighting (North), The Mound in Edinburgh is one such project – a challenging and high-profile scheme delivered under extraordinary circumstances.

Reflecting on the experience, David shared: “A career-defining project – that’s how the client described it. And he wasn’t talking about my career.”

Completed in 2020, the project involved the transformation of a prominent heritage site for Lloyds Banking Group and Mitie. The Mound, described by the client as ‘the second most important building in Edinburgh,’ sits in the heart of the city and is exposed on all four sides to the elements, bringing significant logistical and environmental challenges.

The project’s complexity was amplified by its setting, a listed building that required careful planning and sensitive treatment, located in a busy city centre with limited access and high public visibility. Adding to the challenge, the site was exposed to high winds on all four elevations, and strict scheduling delays were imposed due to the COP26 summit and a royal visit from Prince Charles, which meant work couldn’t begin until both had passed. Despite these obstacles, the project was delivered successfully, a true testament to the LITE team’s resilience, meticulous planning, and problem-solving expertise.

David added, “Overcoming the barriers and intense client scrutiny made the final moment of commissioning unforgettable. The reaction from the Lloyds Banking Group team that evening is something that will stay with me for a long time.”

For Jake Barnes, LITE Regional Sales Manager, one of the most memorable and rewarding projects in his time at LITE has been the transformation of Ossett Town Hall – an outstanding Grade II listed building in West Yorkshire with deep architectural and civic heritage.

Jake and the wider LITE Architectural team knew it was a project that would demand both sensitivity and creativity.

Jake reflected on his experience of working on the project, “Ossett Town Hall stands out for me because it’s not just about lighting a building – it’s about honouring a piece of history and giving it new life after dark. It was a privilege to be part of something that enhances how the local community connects with such a historic landmark.”

LITE were appointed to design, supply, install, and commission the entire exterior lighting scheme, with a brief that demanded a flexible and thoughtful solution. The design needed to respect the hall’s historic architectural features, enhance its visibility and presence during the evening hours, and provide dynamic colour-changing capabilities to mark national events and awareness days, bringing both function and symbolism to the lighting design.

The people behind the projects are what truly set LITE apart. With decades of experience across multiple sectors and disciplines, the team shares a deep-rooted understanding of lighting, not just as a technology, but as an art form, a science, and a vital part of placemaking.

Steve Hainsworth, CEO of LITE, commented: “LITE is a true success story, growing year after year while maintaining a strong, stable team. Reaching 350 years of combined experience is a remarkable achievement, and it directly benefits our clients by giving them access to an unrivalled pool of expertise.”

Chung Lee, Design Director, added: “Being part of LITE is fantastic – it’s an inspiring place to work, where we’re constantly learning and evolving. This allows us to pass our knowledge on to clients, ensuring successful project outcomes.”

Lawrence Hayes, UK Specification Manager, shared his perspective on joining the team: “I joined LITE at the end of last year. One of the key factors that persuaded me to join the team is encompassed in this milestone – working as part of a team that has the knowledge, mindset, track record, and motivation to execute projects to the highest standard. We take ownership of every project we’re involved in, with commitment, honesty and trust. That’s what defines us – and what ultimately delivers the best results for our clients.”

While the lighting industry continues to evolve rapidly, with smarter controls, sustainability targets, and experiential design becoming ever more central, LITE’s steady foundation of experience remains a key asset. The company’s longevity and proven track record give clients confidence that every project will be handled with the utmost professionalism, creativity, and care.

350 years of LITE isn’t just a milestone – it’s a mark of trust, innovation, and excellence.
